Electric engines in motorboats
Sailboats are particularly suited for electric motors since wind in any case is the main means of propulsion.
Motor sailing combining wind and electric engine measurably increases range or speed.
Motor sailing with a silent electric engine allows you to arrive quickly in low winds and waves, making for an undramatic and safe family experience.
In the same way that an electric car returns energy back to the battery when driving downhill, energy may be regenerated by having the propeller rotate while sailing.
With regeneration and solar cells, you avoid range anxiety and the stressful search for charging points on land, generally found only in crowded guest harbors.
A running diesel engine often creates a lot of noise under the deck of a sailboat. With an electric motor, you avoid noise and engine odor.
